Die schwangere Nak bleibt allein in ihrem Dorf zurück, nachdem ihr Mann Mak in den Krieg zieht. Schwer verwundet im Kampf, kehrt dieser erst Jahre später zurück zu Frau und Kind. Doch die anderen Dorfbewohner betrachten die wiedervereinte Familie misstrauisch bis verängstigt. Erst als sich unheimliche Vorfälle häufen, beginnt Mak selbst nachzuforschen und ein grausiges Geheimnis aufzudecken. Nonzee Nimibutr adaptierte mit Nang Nak eine der berühmtesten thailändischen Geistergeschichten: ein elegantes, viel zu wenig bekanntes Horrorstück, getragen von saftiger, satter Dschungelatmosphäre.

Nimibutr, Nonzee is regarded as one of the leading figures of the New Wave of Thai filmmakers, alongside Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, Wisit Sasanatieng, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Born in 1962, he made his debut in 1997 with Dang Bireley’s and Young Gangsters. His next film was Nang Nak, his most famous effort. Continuing his directing career with movies like Queens of Langasuka or the comic adaptation Noo Hin: The Movie, he has also distinguished himself as a producer with films like Bangkok Dangerous by the Pang Brothers or Pen-Ek Ratanaruang’s Monrak Transistor.
