Nestled in the harsh beauty of Iceland’s landscapes is the farm of shepherds Ingvar and Maria, who, after a tragic incident, are forced to give up their wish to have children. One day, however, in their barn, a very special little lamb sees the light of day—a creature that will change Ingvar and Maria’s marriage and their whole life forever. Lamb is a relationship drama cushioned in myth and folklore, enriched with absurd humor, and shaded by an ever-expanding darkness. With his feature debut, Valdimar Jóhannsson delivers (pun intended) an astonishing masterstroke!

Valdimar Jóhannsson
Jóhannsson, Valdimar knows lambs, sheep, and rams very well from his childhood days, when he spent a lot of time on his grandparents’ sheep farm. Born in 1978 and based in Reykjavík, he has been active in the Icelandic film industry for two decades. From 2013 to 2015, he was in the PhD program at Béla Tarr's Filmfactory in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His mentors there included Tilda Swinton, Gus Van Sant, Carlos Reygadas, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, among others. Lamb is Valdimar’s first feature film.
