Karma is a bitch—an adage school teacher Hoaggie experiences firsthand when two drifters interrupt his weekend hiking trip and force him, his wife, and their two teenage sons on a nightmarish trip down memory lane. The car becomes the scene of relentlessly violent psycho-frenzy about past events and persisting traumas joined by a vague hint of redemption. This bleak chamber play in the guise of a road movie marks the feature directing debut of Kiwi actor James Ashcroft: a minimalist thriller built on collective failure and individual guilt.
