Hauntings are less uniform than horror films have led us to believe. Not always ghostly, they can take the shape of unresolved feelings that possess our every thought or painful patterns that play over and over like old records in an endless loop. Artists–often obsessed or haunted by their own process–can exorcize anguish through creativity or use their art to breathe life into a dying world, celebrating old but hardly forgotten ways. By the same token, their work can trigger an uneasy communion with the dead, summoning traumas either personal or historical like spectres that transfix a moment in time. In ways both harrowing and hopeful, SLASH is coming to haunt your soul.
