An elderly couple hopes to win the first prize in a dancing competition to pay off its debt. Tax evasion puts an ambitious politician on the spot. A young woman is about to experience her sexual awakening. Director Jean-Christophe Meurisse weaves these narrative threads into a venomously sardonic survey of the French social majority. Disguised as a satirical comedy, Bloody Oranges is impossible to pigeonhole, hard to read, and even harder to stomach. An ideal example of dangerous cinema.
