Swamp witch Tzod is hunting for a blue flower said to give its bearer unlimited power, to take revenge on those who have razed her village to the ground. But the guardian of the plant utters a stern warning: Its possession has been the doom and death of many before her. The Spine of Night is a throwback to the golden age of Low Fantasy, rendered as a love letter and tribute to the two genre icons Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta and a carefully hand-animated celebration for all who still dream of barbarians, monsters, and magic. Oh, and of course blood is spilled as well. By the gallons.

Philip Gelatt, Morgan Galen King
Gelatt, Philip & Morgan Galen King teamed up to develop the feature film The Spine of Night. Morgan and his animation studio Gorgonaut started crafting its fantasy world in 2010, beginning with a pair of short experiments about the barbarian Mongrel, and then expanding into the more fully formed short Exordium. Philip, on the other hand, directed the horror films The Bleeding and They Remain and wrote the screenplay for the sci-fi thriller Europa Report. Saved from being destroyed by a Windows update, their collaboration The Spine of Night had its world premiere at SXSW.
